Early in the project workshops were held between GRACE software developers and miltiary experts to define:
scenarios, one naval and one army, in the context of which the AI facilities would be developed and demonstrated
specific users within the command team to be supported in those scenarios
specific tasks in which AI had the potential to give military benefits to these users.
Simulators were developed which were able to generate realistic report streams representing the agreed scenarios. The simulators are tools for the project rather than being novel - they have been implemented following an object-oriented approach to softwared development, but they do not, for example, use intelligent agents.
The following sections detail the tasks and users supported, the scenarios and the simulators, first for the naval domain and then for the army domain.
